I'm skeptical about setting fire to the foot of pretty short legged bird like a pigeon and it a) staying alight _while the bird is airborne_ and b) (assuming the foot _did_ stay alight) the bird being able to fly any great distance without being completely barbequed. The point of ANY game is adherence to the rules - unless not adhering to the rules IS one of the rules, in which case you're still not breaking the rules. Saying "fairy chess (or any other variation) is missing the point of chess" is like saying that "Canasta is missing the point of Poker." They're different games, with different rules.
